In this conference, we will deepen, broaden, and develop our understanding of anthroposophic nursing in the fields of oncology, palliative care, and geriatrics. | Monika Layer; RN, MAS Public Management, Teacher, ANS, RES I worked as a nurse, a nursing teacher, and a manager for about 50 years in Germany and Switzerland across several hospitals and medical disciplines. I have known Anthroposophic nursing since 1983, and I’ve always been fascinated by how anthroposophical care enriches and expands upon conventional care. Over the years, I have specialized in rhythmical einreibung. During the final years of my professional career, I worked at the Center for Integrative Medicine as an APN at a public hospital in St. Gallen, Switzerland. My tasks were to co-manage the center, to teach colleagues about external applications in the hospital wards, and to treat patients with external applications/rhythmical einreibung. |
EURYTHMY with Valerie Poplawski
Rudolf Steiner created a 12-fold sequence of eurythmy gestures known as The Evolution Sequence. This sequence of consonants was presented as an imaginative picture of the evolution of human consciousness and of the relationship of the human being to the cosmos.
Participants will learn to move the eurythmy gestures of these 12 consonantal sounds.
Through exploring the sculptural gestures and corresponding soul qualities of each consonant we will sense the significance of these interrelated formative forces in ourselves, in our work, and in the world around us.
In our final morning session we will celebrate one another in community through sharing a eurythmy greeting known as the EVOE. This too is a sequence, but now one of vowels and soul gestures, indicating a joyful progression from self-awareness, through meeting and honoring the others in our circle, to a transformed selfhood.
CLAY MODELING with Michael Howard
Clay Modeling Course Description:
Participants will be introduced to the basic elements of sculptural form through hands-on clay modeling. We will explore how these form elements can be combined in different ways to produce particular form qualities. We will discover a wonderful relationship between these form qualities and the qualities of speech sounds, as well as those of eurythmy movements. Each of the three days, we will model a different form related to a different speech sound that corresponds with the first three sounds of the Evolutionary Sequence. In this way we will be led into the realm of metamorphosis, not only in the outer kingdoms of nature, but within the human soul and spirit.
Learning Outcomes:
Through the above outer activity, we will be engaged in the following inner activity:
i) We will be exercising and developing artistic feeling, whereby we learn to observe qualities with the exact objectivity we have come to expect through quantitative perceptions.
ii) Such qualitative perception allows us to awaken to an experiential knowing of non-physical realities as quantitative perception informs us of physical realities. Exact qualitative perception opens us to knowing the living forces of the etheric, as well as a living knowing of soul and spirit.
iii) What we develop by way of artistic perception and experience awakens new creative faculties for serving the outer and inner needs of the world. In particular, we will gain experiential insight into our potential for facilitating living and holistic transformation, or metamorphosis, as an alternate to the more familiar chaotic or mechanical forms of change.
